Brainstorming Session

May 6, 2010 (Thursday)
6 p.m. to 11.30 p.m.
Amnesty International Office, P. Jaya.

On May 6th 2010, a brainstorming session was held at Amnesty Int. Malaysia's office in Petaling Jaya. It started from 7.00 p.m. until 10.30 p.m. 23 people including the committees attended the session. The aim was to discuss on Project 26# and Human Rights Public Speaking Competition.

The session started with everyone introducing themselves. Then, PORN's President, Wan Luqman further explained on PORN's framework and objectives. Everyone was given the chance to give out their ideas and suggestions. It was a "spill all you can" session.

The objective of Human Rights Public Speaking Competition is to give the chance for the youth to express their feelings and to give their say on human rights issue. And the competition was suggested to be held just like 'The American Idol' style. We decided that this event to be held on September 25th and 26th, 2010. The details as in the venue, judges, promotion and publication were also discussed. Great suggestions and ideas were presented by all whom attended.

Then, the discussion moved on to the next agenda which was Project 26#. Project 26# is related to Article 26 of United Nation Declaration of Human Rights where everyone has the right to education. The main objective of Project 26# is to help the children of Orang Asli. We aim to help Year6 students for their UPSR examination. Few volunteers will assist these students with extra classes and tuitions. And by this, they will be able to grab the chance of going to boarding schools (SBP), Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) or even premier schools. We discussed on every aspect to ensure that the plan and the objective go on congruently. This discussion was a success as some of the participants with experience regarding Orang Asli gave out their ideas and positive critics.

To ignite the members' spirits, the session went on with PORN's future plans and activities. We want all members to be committed and passionate in this. The spirit of activism shouldn't be temporary.

The session ended with our very own teh-tarik session. Thank you to those who came. And thank you for all your fantastic ideas. Thank you!
